What to expect on Visit 1
What to expect on Visit 1
Different patients often have different expectations of what they will receive at their Chiropractic initial consultation.
Usually, this is because they have never seen a Chiropractor before or they have seen a previous Chiropractor that might operate differently .
Below I outline and explain exactly how your first appointment at JS Chiropractic works from start to finish.
1. The medical History.
After finding our office and being greeted by the Chiropractor, you will take a seat (or stand if sitting is painful), and have the chiropractor ask you questions about your medical history. The initial questions resolve around the complaint such as “where’s the pain”, “how does it feel” etc, but more detailed questions will be present as well as questions concerning your past medical history to get a full overview of your health and wellbeing.
This helps our Chiropractor to rule in or rule out certain conditions/diagnoses that can be further investigated in our Chiropractic examination.
2. The Chiropractic Examination
Now you will be taken through a Chiropractic examination assessing the integrity of your joints, muscles, ligaments and nerves to find exactly the underlying problems that is causing your pain/problem.
Tests usually involve posture checks, range of motion, motion palpation and muscle testing but additional special tests might be added depending on the body area we are looking at.
The patient isn’t required to wear a gown during the exam and most tests can be done in regular clothing, but loose or sporting clothing is recommended.
3. The report of findings
Personally this is the most important part of the appointment. The Chiropractor will describe and explain their findings giving the patient a diagnosis of the problem and outlining both a short term and long term management plan to help them not only become pain free but working at full function
This is a great time for the patient to ask and questions or queries they might have concerning the diagnosis and treatment.
4. The Treatment.
This is the part people came here wanting, at JS Chiropractic, we do treat on the first visit only if clinically indicated.
The goal of the first treatment is to begin to get the ball rolling in pain reduction and to start to establish a new muscle memory, allowing our body’s to heal adapt and repair.
It is important to note that each patient feels different after their 1st treatment some feeling better than others.
When the treatment is over, the Chiropractor will go over any advice/ exercise and get the patient booked in for their next appointment in accordance with the care plan.
Hope that helped and provided a positive insight in to what goes on in our practice.
Each Chiropractic clinic works differently and its not a case of what works better than the other but what is the more comfortable environment and set-up for the patient.
