Top 3 Muscles to Stretch to improve your back pain

This is a question I get asked all the time, We have so many muscles in our body it can be difficult to decide which ones should take priority when it comes to stretching them.

Certain people will often need to focus on stretching different muscles compared to others based on their day to day habits.

However, after much thought I have chosen the 3 main muscles I see tight on my clients that I would personally focus on keeping loose and mobile to keep up with improving your spinal health.

1.       Gluteals/ Bum muscles. – Always always always see these muscles being tight. This is often due to sitting for long periods a day causing them to feel tight and restricted.

2.       Hip flexors- Again another major hip muscle this time coming from the front of our hips rather than the back. This one is actually a source is annoyance for myself, tight hip flexors often come from sitting and when restricted can very much affect our hip mobility when doing different sports and exercises.

3.       Trapezius muscle- These are the big muscles that connect our shoulders and neck together, these are most commonly tight from overuse on a computer or staring at a screen. These muscles often give localised neck pain and shoulder pain and even headaches.

All these muscles will often by a source of pain and tension at some point in our lives. If you want to keep on top of these areas stay tuned for Friday on our Instagram when Joel is going to drop our latest video on his favourite ways to stretch each muscle group. @jschiropractic
