Health & Wellbeing Goals for 2024

Health & Wellbeing Goals for 2024

Hello Chandlers Ford and Eastleigh Community, I hope that everyone has had a wonderful Christmas Period. As we begin January this pairs with the beginning of new year’s resolutions. Often times, these involve goals and targets related around health and wellbeing, the classics being losing weight, getting to the gym and improving the diet.

These are all commendable goals, however we often see excitement take over and people trying to do too much too soon. This leads them in to our office with acute injuries such as low back pain, neck pain sciatica, headaches and more as they pushed their body beyond its capacity.

We have to remember that our body and our spine needs time to adapt to the new activities we are placing on it, for example jumping on a treadmill and trying to run ten kilometres after three months of inactivity probably isn’t the best option. Events like these increase the chances and risk of injury with back pain being one of the most common.

Instead, lets ease ourselves back in with baby steps. Going back to the previous analogy, we can instead run a kilometre first or run then walk, allowing us to exercise well but not to the point we risk back pain.

So if one if your goals is to improve your health and wellbeing, remember to gradually ease back in to the gym and trust me your spine will thank you for it.
