Benefits of working with different Healthcare professionals
Our patients can see us with a range of pains and complaints, ranging from short term niggles to chronic agony and pain. It is important when looking at a patient that we need to give them the best possible level of care which sometimes involves working with other healthcare professionals as part of a team to ensure they achieve a full and complete recovery.
For example, Chiropractic is excellent for ensuring that our nervous system is functioning to the best of its ability by ensuring our spine is moving correctly. This will give the body the optimum capacity to heal and recover.
Additionally, If my clients are suffering with a lot of soft tissue and muscular tension, it would be logical to refer them to a sports massage therapist who can cater and focus upon removing their tensions, reducing pain and improving muscle function.
If a client has a preference for a lighter form of treatment with more joint mobilisations, I would sek the help of an Osteopath who will focus more on improving joint mobility through lighter techniques that might be more preferable to the client. Also Osteopathy is great to refer to when looking at any cranial work that needs doing in response to the complaint.
Finally, If lots of exercise and rehabilitation is needed (more common in chronic pain patients) It would be a smart decision to refer to a Physiotherapist or personal trainer who can focus on improving the strength and stability of the clients problem areas to prevent further reoccurrence in the future.
These professions highlighted above as well as many more demonstrate the importance of working together as a team of healthcare professionals to give our client the best possible outcomes for recovery.
